Xecê
Xecê is a Kurdish singer and bağlama player from Cizîr/Cizre, with roots in the village of Hebler and the Yafes neighborhood. The youngest of five brothers and two sisters, she carried a love of music from childhood. In 1996 she began formal music studies, setting the course for a life on stage and in the studio. From 1996 to 2003 she took part in various collective projects, culminating in Koma Avzem—an all-women ensemble of five—in which she performed bağlama, solos and lead vocals.
Across her releases, Xecê’s earthy, emotive tone—rooted in tradition yet alive to the present—has earned her a devoted audience at home and in the diaspora. Today she stands among the most listened-to and recognized Kurdish artists of her generation. Xecê’s story with music continues, without pause.
