At the Racket feature John Carty, Brian McGrath and Séamus O’Donnell. The band are well known for their uplifting banjo/saxophone lead sound which gives that divil-may-care-ness to all their tunes, be they jigs, reels, flings, waltzes or songs. At the Racket bring an interesting new sound to Irish music today, playing seriously joyous music, which will lift hearts and dare the feet to stop dancing.

Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh and Dónal O’Connor is a multi-award winning traditional singer and musician from Corca Dhuibhne, West Kerry. She received the RTÉ Radio 1 Folk Award for Best Traditional track in 2018. A leading exponent of the sean nós style, her repertoire also includes songs from a wide variety of folk and contemporary sources.

As the son of internationally renowned fiddler Gerry O’Connor and acclaimed vocalist Eithne Ní Uallacháin, Dónal O’Connor comes from a line of traditional musicians spanning back through countless generations. A native Irish speaker, Donal is a highly accomplished fiddle player as well as a tv producer and presenter. O’Connor has also served as a presenter for BBC Radio, and TG4 television.

Muireann’s latest recording with the Irish Chamber Orchestra was produced by Dónal O’Connor: Róisín Reimagined explores the connections between classical and traditional music and reimagines these timeless songs for a new era.

Eimear McGeown (concerto composed by Carl Hession)

Virtuoso flautist, Eimear McGeown, will perform the première of a Suite composed by Carl Hession for Classical and Irish flutes accompanied by string quartet. Eimear started Irish flute at a young age with the legendary Séamus Tansey and won two All Ireland titles. She moved to London to study Classical flute at Trinity College of Music. Two of her most notable performances have been as soloist on BBC’s Last Night of the Proms and in Carnegie Hall. Carl Hession is regarded as one of Traditional Irish music’s finest accompanists, composers and arrangers – together they have sculpted a unique new piece together that also includes a jig Eimear composed to finish the whole suite.

The Trad Gathering

IMDL’s youth project, The Trad Gathering, presents an ensemble of today’s great young London Irish musicians, together to perform music from the great Kerry fiddler, Julia Clifford. Led by Karen Ryan (fiddle) and Pete Quinn (piano).
