Following incredible shows at The Jazz Cafe and St John’s at Hackney Church this year, Matthew Halsall & The Gondwana Orchestra are back to woo the London crowds once again as they grace us with their presence at the impressive Islington Assembly Hall, Tuesday 15th November.
Mancunian trumpeter, composer and band-leader Matthew Halsall has established himself as one of the most prominent names in the contemporary European Jazz scene. Featuring The Gondwana Orchestra’s unbelievable line-up comprising of Luke Flowers of Cinematic Orchestra (Drums), Rachael Gladwin (harp), Jordan Smart (saxophones), Taz Modi (piano) and Gavin Barras (double bass), it’s likely that there could be treats from other friends of the Gondwana label.
A gifted trumpeter with a beautiful, expressive tone, Matthew Halsall’s music draws on his love of the transcendental, spiritual and modal jazz of Alice and John Coltrane and Pharoah Sanders, as well as the glories of ‘60s British jazz. With 6 acclaimed albums to his name, he continues to make noise in the contemporary jazz scene with no signs of stopping.
This show will be an unmissable opportunity to see world-renowned musicians performing classic and contemporary jazz at our incredible North London venue.
“What we have here is one of the finest British jazz combos of the modern era, one that manages to combine the serious and spiritual within a warm, melodic and welcoming musical context.” All About Jazz
