In celebration of his critically acclaimed album ‘Singing Saw’ and his sold out Oslo show in May, Kevin Morby will be returning to London this November.
‘Singing Saw’ – the third LP from former Woods bassist and The Babies’ guitarist Kevin Morby – is a record of duality, one that marks another stage of growth for this young, gifted songwriter with a kind face and a complicated mind.
“Kevin Morby’s superb third album is the sound of a man gently losing his mind to music… Formerly a member of psych-poppers Woods, Morby takes some of that bands playfully warped atmosphere and solders it to more traditional songwriting inspired by the likes of Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen. The album’s tone hops sure-footedy between the coasts, as if Morby were taking the sepia charms of The Band and twisting them psychedelically out of shape.”
Uncut – 9/10
“A glorious third album… A sublime blend of protest songs, wild imagination and luxurious musical backing.”
NME – 4 Stars **** (Album of the Week)
“Front porch strums are upscaled with elegant strings and gritty, sophisticated arrangements. Its done with such finesse that the rich layers of texture and emotion recall the country gospel lushness of Gene Clark’s No Other.”
MOJO – 4 Stars ****
“Evoking The Band’s warped Americana, Morby’s serene folk-rock moves back and forth through time… ‘Black Flowers’ typifies his songwriting prowess, its cryptic lyrics twinned with a gorgeous melody that is both pristine and familiar.”
The Observer – 4 Stars ****
